What does Jesus really say about our current financial crisis?
Evangelicals who want to know how to pray for our economy and its leaders deserve to hear the Bible’s message for these financial times.
As a result of in-depth study on the subject of Biblical Principles for Financial Success, jesus Shaped Spirituality can now release to the public the definitive teaching on “What The Bible Says About The American Economic Crisis.”
This is teaching you won’t get anywhere else. Be sure and read it all!
What Jesus says about the Wall Street crisis:
Revelation 18 1 After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was made bright with his glory. 2 And he called out with a mighty voice,
Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great!
She has become a dwelling place for demons,
a haunt for every unclean spirit,
a haunt for every unclean bird,
a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast.
3 For all nations have drunk
the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality,
and the kings of the earth have committed immorality with her,
and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living.
4 Then I heard another voice from heaven saying,
Come out of her, my people,
lest you take part in her sins,
lest you share in her plagues;
5 for her sins are heaped high as heaven,
and God has remembered her iniquities.
6 Pay her back as she herself has paid back others,
and repay her double for her deeds;
mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed.
7 As she glorified herself and lived in luxury,
so give her a like measure of torment and mourning,
since in her heart she says,
I sit as a queen,
I am no widow,
and mourning I shall never see.
8 For this reason her plagues will come in a single day,
death and mourning and famine,
and she will be burned up with fire;
for mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.
9 And the kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived in luxury with her, will weep and wail over her when they see the smoke of her burning. 10 They will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say,
Alas! Alas! You great city,
you mighty city, Babylon!
For in a single hour your judgment has come.
11 And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn for her, since no one buys their cargo anymore, 12 cargo of gold, silver, jewels, pearls, fine linen, purple cloth, silk, scarlet cloth, all kinds of scented wood, all kinds of articles of ivory, all kinds of articles of costly wood, bronze, iron and marble, 13 cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and slaves, that is, human souls.
14 The fruit for which your soul longed
has gone from you,
and all your delicacies and your splendors
are lost to you,
never to be found again!
15 The merchants of these wares, who gained wealth from her, will stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud,
16 Alas, alas, for the great city
that was clothed in fine linen,
in purple and scarlet,
adorned with gold,
with jewels, and with pearls!
17 For in a single hour all this wealth has been laid waste.
And all shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off 18 and cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning,
What city was like the great city?
19 And they threw dust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out,
Alas, alas, for the great city
where all who had ships at sea
grew rich by her wealth!
For in a single hour she has been laid waste.
20 Rejoice over her, O heaven,
and you saints and apostles and prophets,
for God has given judgment for you against her!
21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,
So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence,
and will be found no more;
22 and the sound of harpists and musicians, of flute players and trumpeters,
will be heard in you no more,
and a craftsman of any craft
will be found in you no more,
and the sound of the mill
will be heard in you no more,
23 and the light of a lamp
will shine in you no more,
and the voice of bridegroom and bride
will be heard in you no more,
for your merchants were the great ones of the earth,
and all nations were deceived by your sorcery.
24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints,
and of all who have been slain on earth

James 5:1-6 also seems relevant to the crisis.
Or, in other words, “God Damn America“?
Not as poetic, but maybe Jeremiah Wright was onto something.
Just thinking out loud.

Q: “What does Jesus really say about our current financial crisis?”
A: Revelation 18: 1-24.
Wow, that post was just made of awesome. Thanks for posting it, as always.
This critique is way too easy and too smug. Sure greed was a real part of the failure but this particular bank failure arose out of desire to extend credit to the poor. It was well intentioned (if not well thought out) by at least some of the actors (Congress) that encouraged loans to the poor and minorities through regulation of the banks and government policy. It doubtless crossed into abuse by some lenders, but it’s unfair to paint them all with the same brush. Also what does any of this have to do with sexual immorality? Some of those passages just don’t apply.
I am tri-vocational. I have been in the mortgage lending industry for 12 years, my wife for 30. Memphis Aggie, I can show you, it was all greed. All of it. The same people who brought you the “mini” subprime crisis about 10 years ago are back and have done it AGAIN. After all, they made millions the first time. One of our brothers at Dayspring just left realty. He made a list of rules to avoid financial disaster. great rules, all out of Proverbs. I wish it were true
Aggie that there was some good thought behind some of this but, no, not a bit.
How did it help anyone to loan 100% of what a property is worth[on a good day in a good market] to someone with a poor credit history without really examining their ability to pay the loan back? [and all at ahigher interest rate btw] Sounds Silly? Well the loan was called a SiSa loan, Stated income[ no proof required] Stated Asset, we called it a liars loan. If you really had the income and the assets you would not take a higher interest loan, you would show what you had and save money.
Michael I think there is value in Scripture, but this is not apocalyptic, just a free market adjustment. Remember the dot com bubble burst? This is the same thing. Something being sold that has little or no value. The masses of loans sold on the secondary market to investors are worth less than they thought. but they are not worthless, there is real property behind most of them and the majority will perform.
Don’t say the end is near, say He told you so. You reap what you sow. I am with Pastor M.
Well you won’t get that interpretation from all the Left-Behind/Hal Lindsay types. ‘Babylon’ is always the current enemy of the USA.
But for a non-American Christian, the comparison between Babylon and the US seems stronger and stronger as the years go by. And here in Australia we weep and wail in fear of your torment as our superannuation goes down the gurgler because of some greedy merchants over your way. And it’s out fault.
‘All nations have drunk the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed immorality with her.’
Memphis Aggie, Australia has bought into American culture so indiscriminately and aligned ourselves with some very dodgy policies of yours – the sexual immoraility imagery is spot on.
The application of Revelation 18 is just and appalling at the same time. But rightly so.
Thanks for letting the world know what Jesus has to say!
I woke this morning with tears streaming down my face. In my dreams the Lord showed me how this is economic crisis is not getting any better. In fact there is a new mortgage crisis looming as commercial loans are starting to default. There is an absence of routine and cycles in the stock market. The dollar is loosing ground. Our country does not manufacture hardly anything. I was in the store just this week and noticed that everything in the store was made in china. The Lord also showed me farming equipment in other nations plowing. And right now nations are rising against nations just for food…have’nt you heard of the food shortage and some nations are starting to use food to promote their political agendas.
The Lord reminded me that I’m not “ready” and have more work to do. It snowed really bad here. Two days ago a man got out of his car and approached my car ranting and raving and using foul language because although I was a car length behind him, he felt I was tailgating him. Instead of having the love of Jesus in all my conversation, I apologized and as he continued to use the “f” word I finally told him he didnt know how to drive and to go home. It was an unsafe situation and I handled it all wrong. I should have stopped talking at the apology. it could have been my last day on earth. It could have been his last time to hear the gospel. I got it wrong.
I have a sister in law, who has not been very gracious or honest with my family. And I until this morning, I would rather not have her company. The Lord showed me that I need to get that relationship right.
All of this to say, that I know Jesus is on His way back and I like everyone else has a lot of work to do if we want to be caught up in the rapture. Everything is orchestrated for His return and although troubling and gut wrenching we have to remember who is really in control and who really provided for us and who we are really accountable to and what His requirements really are..The Lord Jesus.
Pray for me.
