Manifesto
Our central lie is in the discrepancy between the language of worship and the actions of worship. We confess “Jesus is Lord” but only submit to the part of Christ’s authority that fits our grand personal designs, doesn’t cause pain, doesn’t disrupt the American dream, doesn’t draw us across ethnic and racial divisions, doesn’t add the pressure of too much guilt, doesn’t mean forgiving as we have been forgiven, doesn’t ask for more than a check to show compassion. We “sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs” expressing our desire to know Jesus, but the Jesus we want to know is the sanitized Jesus that looks a lot like us when we think we are at our best. Despite God’s Word to the contrary, we think we can say that we love God and yet hate our neighbor, neglect the widow, forget the orphan, fail to visit the prisoner, ignore the oppressed. Its the sign of disordered love. When we do this, our worship becomes a lie to God. -Mark Labberton

Nice one. Anyone run into this one yet? She’s not famous, but I’d let her introduce Jesus any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.
Great clip, Michael!
Thank you, too, Raffi for the Blair Wingo link!
Now, if I could just have a second to catch my breath …..
Michael, dude that was just freakin’ awesome! When I first read you post title, I was like “What the heck is this gonna be?” How shocked I was! Isn’t so cool how we often find some of the most spiritually encouraging words coming from the strangest places…Grace breaking through at a comedy show. God bless Steve Harvey. I pray that he truly knows and loves the one that he so wonderfully introduced.
Thanks again for digging up and posting great stuff like this.

I second the above.. and I loved Blair Wingo clip too.. Thank you
Wow. Pretty much says it all doesn’t it?
Yeah. Wow. God doesn’t need our help talking to people, no matter who or where they are. We might be surprised who He knows. ;-)
You have to appreciate a man taking a public stand for Christ in a wide open arena. Had I been there, I would have had goosebumps, too. But it still troubles me a little to hear Jesus introduced like a Las Vegas show. My hunch is, when Jesus finally does step back on stage, this whole world will struggle for words, stuttering and stammering, and finally keeping silence before the Holy One.
Rock on.
Drew, I feel you on that one. Several years ago I went hiking in the Colorado Mountains. It was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad, deal. My knees ached, my lungs were sore. As we climbed above ‘tree line’ the oxygen grew then and my nose began to bleed and I gasped for every breath. Then our group came around a bend where our guide led us to a lookout. It was the first time during the whole hike where we could see something other than rocks and trees. I stood on that peak that day in complete and utter silence, weeping at the weight of glory that sprawled before me…miles and miles of purple mountains majesty, so high in the air that eagles flew below us, the dancing rays of the Sun splashing through the broken clouds painted the valleys below us with broad strokes of brilliant color. It blows my mind to think that the day of Christ’s appearing will supersede that moment of joy and transcendence. But I do believe it will…and on that day I will most likely stand just as I stood so many years ago, gazing at the Colorado Rockies…silent, mouth agape, and weeping. I cannot wait for that day.
I was sitting in the press box at this very show when it was taped in Atlanta. People would be surprised who is a ‘fan’ of Jesus, but he would not.
Some people – like Steve Harvey – may curse and cause others to think he has a brash exterior, but once you are able cut through his (or anyone’s) exoskeletal protection, you would amazed at the power of God on the inside.
There’s something to be said for “Jesus Saves”
I think Steve Harvey heard a sermon by DR SM Lockridge and ran with it.
Here’s a link to it. Now this is an introduction to Jesus!
I went to the above web-site and I don’t see it. If Steve got his inspination from Dr SM Lockridge then the Dr. was doing his job. I hope someday to be able to stand among thousands of people and praise Jesus like this. To inspire everyone around me to stand and give praise to our Lord. YES thats what makes me smile.
